Giveaway Day

Help...Father's Day's only a week away! Life's been a little hectic at Aprilmay lately - to the point where I missed a certain someone's birthday recently - so I'll be sending out 6 Lauren Williams brooches to the most interesting (and mail friendly) Father's Day gift suggestions.

My dad is a vintage car fanatic. I spent many a day growing up with him tinkering on his hot rods in the shed. So when he moved away it became harder to chose presents because of distance. Last year I bought him a car magazine from his birth year from a company that presents it with a certificate of authenticity, personal message and protective display folder.

I could send it directly to him from the company. He loved it and was totally flawed by how much thought I had put into it.

I'll probably go with a cooking item of some sort... maybe BBQ related or one of those pizza stones and cutter (great for the oven). He's chef at heart so he doesn't mind that sort of thing.

Or... you can never go wrong with a 'going out shirt' as Mum likes to call it. Who better to chose a shirt than a younger generation?

Hope this gets me in the draw for those fabbo brooches (I'm just out of Melb).

I'm always a fan of books as a gift, perhaps something by Henry Petroski. "To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design" was a great look at how we learn through disasters and some of the best design comes from mistakes or "The Evolution of Useful Things" looked at little things like the design of pencils and paperclips.

You could tie it together with a personalized gift like a book plate made from a photo of the two you.
