Today I'll be sending out a Hosiery Bangle sample to the first 10 people to comment on their most recent gift purchase, ie, what was it, where did you buy it and was it made in Melbourne?I'm sure there's lots of beautiful shops around that I don't know about so I think it will be a good excuse for me to check them out.

AND our open studio event "All in a Month's Work" showcasing local designers will be on again in a fortnight. We'll be opening the doors at 107 Scotchmer St North Fitzroy (next to Dench Bakery) from 3-8pm on Friday the 4th of April and again on Saturday and Sunday from 10-4. I'll be adding a list of the designers participating over the next couple of days.

Welcome to Blogland Sam. I am quite new to blogging and am already absolutely addicted.

Am I responding to the right post to be in the running for the giveaway. I absolutely love the look of the stocking bangles. I wanted to buy some at your last open studio but alas was (and still am) too poor just at the minute.

So, the most recent gift purchase that I made? Hmmm? I have been busy making things lately, and being broke, so haven't bought a lot of other people's goodies. I did buy a cool resin brooch for my sister-in-law from the Northcote Kris Kringle market in December, some Rebound Books for friends from Rose Street Artists Market in January and a fox brooch from Little Salon (for me) in February. All handmade and all made in Melbourne. I am not doing too badly after all.

There are numerous things that I would like to purchase from various makers all over the crafty world. In fact you have inspired me - I might have to blog about all the goodies I have on my wishlist at the moment.

Glad to see you've got a blog going!

I'm responding to be in the running also. The last gift I bought was a present for my sister. It was a Nancy Bird Clutch. I purchased it from the NGV, but I know there are quite a few stockists in Melbourne (I've bought one of her wallets from a small store off Little Collins- unfortunately I've forgotten the name.)
I'm pretty sure it's made in Melbourne, or so I'm told. The leather work is beautiful, and the fabrics used are really sweet and individual as she changes them seasonally.

The most recent gift purchase I made was for my 2 year old niece for Easter. It is a lil handmade singlet top with a heart motif to support the Mirabel Foundation which I bought from Meet me at Mikes on Brunswick Street.

I love those bangles!
Buying gifts for others salves my need for retail therapy and I collect them for the special people in my life.
The most recent gift I bought was a delightful bib with bepigtailed little girl charactures all over it. I bought it at Arthur's Circus - a welcome source of treasures new to my neighbourhood. it is made in Melbourne and part of a gathering of gifts for the daughter of special friends expected in May.
{I think klar's sister is a lucky sister indeed!}

Hi Sam,
The most recent gift I purchased was a brooch from a shop in North Carlton- and yes it was made by a local artist. I try to buy local when I can and am making more and more things myself (knitting garments for kids particularly). I read a lot of craft blogs and am amazed at the community that is devleping, especially amongst mums staying at home looking after children(I have 3) who really don't want to buy mass produced rubbish. Anyway a big welcome to you and am looking forward to lots of creative and inspiring posts!

I recently bought a "Reindeer Girl" painted on a piece of calico from the lovely Ali J, who is based over here in Perth. She sells her work - painting/prints/badges - on etsy under the name "Aussie Patches". Definitely worth a visit.

I have yet to actually transform the calico into a bag, but i have some denim sitting around which i think will be just what i need.

writing this has reminded me that i should actually put a photo of her onto my blog.

cheers!

Are we talking a gift for ourselves or a gift for someone else?

For myself, my latest gift was a new pair of pedals for one of my bikes as the last pair were well and truly past their use by date, unfortunately not made in melbourne.

For someone else, I purchased my niece a cherry stew winter pinni from your last open weekend which will soon be on it's way to japan, definitely made in melbourne and from a local designer.
